MANILA, Philippines — The easterlies and the northeast monsoon or amihan will bring cloudy skies and rains in several parts of the country on Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.

In a 4 a.m. weather forecast, Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, will cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands in Caraga and Davao Oriental.

“Ito [easterlies] ay magdadala ng mga kaulapan na magdadala ng malaking tsansa ng mga pag-ulan at maulap na kalangitan, partikular na silangang bahagi ng Mindanao, ‘yung area ng Caraga at Davao region,” Badrina explained.

(The easterlies will bring cloud formations that will result in a high chance of rain and cloudy skies, particularly in the eastern parts of Mindanao, such as the Caraga and Davao regions.)

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will continue to bring cloudy skies and light rains in Cagayan Valley and Aurora in Central Luzon, as well as in Quezon province in Southern Luzon.

“Ito [northeast monsoon] ang magdadala ng maulap na kalangitan na may mahihinang pag-ulan, partikular na sa may bahagi ng eastern section ng Northern and Central Luzon. Ito ‘yung area ng Cagayan Valley region, gayon din sa Aurora at Quezon,” Badrina said.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon, according to Badrina.

“Wala tayong namo-monitor na anumang low-pressure area sa loob at labas ng Philippine area of responsibility sa kasalukuyan,” Badrina further added.
